1942 Royal Aristocrat (U.S. Military)

Though not branded for the Army or Navy, this typewriter was almost certainly used by the United States during World War II. Its manufacture date places it alongside the more common Navy-branded Arrows produced for the Navy, and this typewriter is also a "mill," meaning it types in all capital letters and has a slashed zero for clarity of message transmission. Note the perimeter of the lid is made of bakelite instead of the usual chrome finish; this was likely the result of production restrictions imposed by war efforts. It could have also been used to minimize glare, which could betray the typist's location in the field.
