1896 Granville Automatic

The Granville Automatic typewriter, invented by Bernard Granville and produced from around 1896 by the Mossberg & Granville Manufacturing Company in Providence, Rhode Island, built upon his earlier Rapid model by introducing innovative keyboard-controlled features like automatic carriage return, line spacing, and shifting without leaving the keys. Despite these advancements, it was a commercial failure with limited production. This is one of about two dozen survivors known today.
