1932 Masspro

The Masspro was a portable typewriter commissioned by the Mass Production Corporation in New York and briefly manufactured around 1932. Designed by George Francis Rose (son of Frank Rose of the Standard Folding/Corona lineage), the Masspro was built with an older-style three-bank “double-shift” keyboard at a time when four-bank designs were becoming standard. Only around 2,000 units are believed to have been made in a handful of colors (black, blue, green, red) with a crinkle finish. Because it arrived in a depressed economy and lagged behind in design, it failed commercially and remains a curiosity and collectible among typewriter enthusiasts. This particular example has the highest known serial at 3110.
